We at Love Zion Baptist Church strive to be a five-star church with a modern approach to sharing the truth of the Word and the purpose of God's Will. We are a place of love and sanctuary; a place where the soul is fed and the spirit is motivated. We believe in building a kingdom for the glory of God with no race, color, age, gender or economic barriers - a place of uninhibited praise with no limitations through the spirit of God. We believe in Ministries with Purpose that counsel, nurture and enrich our community, as well as service its needs. We believe in a holistic ministry that reaches men, women and youth from all walks of life.
1919
Reverend W. M. Jacobs and a small group of Christian believers began holding services at 917 Caldwell Avenue. Rapid growth in membership inspired them to organize into a Baptist church. With great faith that God would bless and consecrate their effort, Reverend W. M. Jacobs called the members of the mission together and they were organized into Love Zion Missionary Baptist Church.
1960
On the first Sunday in December 1960, under the leadership of Pastor M. B. Myers the saints of Love Zion marched from Arsenal Avenue to the present building we call home at 1459 Madison Avenue.
1986
Reverend Wood was officially installed as the Pastor of the Love Zion Baptist Church. He led the church into a stewardship program to renovate the historical house of God. This renovation project was completed in April 1990. He secured a grant for a HUD 202 Housing Project for the handicapped known as Love Zion Manor. Further more he orchestrated installation of a computer lab, renovation of the MLK Fellowship Hall and of the M. B. Myers Chapel.
2004
Love Zion welcomed its new pastor and leader, the Reverend Dr. Wesley E. Greenfield, Jr., and 60 members from the congregation of Abiding Faith Baptist Church. Pastor Greenfield is noted for his expository preaching and teaching, and has brought a new sense of inspiration to the Love Zion family. Several renovation projects have been completed under his direction. He is currently continuing with new projects which include intense community outreach through the Missions and Fulfillment Hour groups.
